LEED Platinum rating ~ Commercial Office Building retrofit with multisource “super green” irrigation system:
In 2013, the NRDC installed a ReWater irrigation system in their Santa Monica HQ to replace the one-of-a-kind toilet flushing system they had installed in 2003, which was costing them a fortune to operate. This ReWater system irrigates flower pots on the roof and landscaping around the ground floor perimeter of the building. First, it uses grey water from sinks and showers, starting and stopping as grey water is produced throughout the day. Second, it has two large underground reservoirs for capturing rain that flows into indoor storage tanks to be pressurized, which are used only after midnight to back up any day’s deficit on the irrigation program. Then third, if there wasn’t enough grey water that day, and the rain tanks have run dry, the system uses potable water to complete that day’s irrigation program. It’s as green as it gets. In the LEED program, this is worth 12 points.
