United States Marine Corps (USMC) Barracks BEQ9, 29 Palms, California
LEED Gold rating ~ Large government funded multi-system greywater irrigation project featuring indigenous species landscaping:
In 2009-2010 the US Marine Corps base located way out in the desert at 29 Palms, California was the site for a ReWater installation of 3 large greywater irrigation systems. They used shower and laundry water from 3 large barracks, each able to house 332 marines. These 3 systems irrigate high-desert-appropriate plant life over several acres of grounds, which adds natural beauty while lowering irrigation and wastewater treatment costs for the government. In 2013-2014 a similar project was completed at 3 more large barracks, this time using only shower water, as not as much water was needed to support the drought tolerant landscaping.
