2.7 Acre Strip Mall, Chula Vista, CA
- A commercial property was reimagined in 2003.
- Laundromat supplies irrigation water for 14,000 square feet of landscape.
- In operation for almost two decades.
Tucked away in an underground vault out in the landscape is a ReWater system that uses water from a 60 machine laundromat to irrigate 14,000 square feet of landscape in and around the 2.7 acre strip mall. The property owner has a ReWater system at his home, so had this commercial system installed in 2003 after demolishing the old mall and replacing every tenant but the laundromat.
The owner has no control over the laundry products used in the washers and they produce the dirtiest greywater we’ve ever measured. Still, you can sip your Starbucks latte while the shrubbery near your feet is irrigated underground with filtered greywater that was laundry discharge just minutes ago and you’d never know it.
