Mini Mall, Chula Vista, CA

The property owner has a ReWater system at his home so he had a commercial ReWater system installed in 2003 after demolishing the old mall and replacing every tenant but the laundromat.

The filter system is hidden in an underground vault in the landscape. It uses water from 60 washing machines to irrigate >14,000 square feet of landscape in and around the 2.7 acre strip mall.

With no control over the laundry products used, this mini mall’s irrigation water is the dirtiest greywater we’ve ever measured. Still, you can sip your Starbucks latte as the shrubbery by your feet is irrigated underground with greywater that was laundry discharge minutes ago and you’d never know it.
